To solve the inability of the Dell Venue 8 Pro Windows tablet (and more) to charge and connect external USB devices at the same time, we created the Plugable Pro8 (UD-PRO8) docking station as a Kickstarter. Thanks to our backers, the project was successfully funded July 2014.
When connected to the Pro8 dock, the dock simulates the stock charger to trigger the tablets charging cycle and then enables USB host mode so devices can be used while the tablet continues charging.
With a single, simple USB Micro B connection using the included cable, add any 1080p DVI, VGA, or HDMI display, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and other USB devices to your Dell Venue 8 Pro (or other supported tablet) while simultaneously charging it, turning your tablet into a desktop replacement.
The Pro8 will charge the Dell Venue 8 Pro no matter which order USB cable is connected or power state tablet is in. If tablet is off, asleep, hibernated, rebooted, etc, dock will maintain charging and reconnect to USB devices. Hot-plugging is supported. (Other tablets may have minor limitations.) Visit plugable.com/pro8 for important information and FAQs.
Compatibility
Suggested for use with web and productivity software; not compatible with DirectX or OpenGL games. Converting to HDMI will be video only. The Pro8 dock is a multifunction USB 2.0 device, with a USB 2.0 Hub, DisplayLink Graphics, Audio, and Ethernet chipsets.
